Texas native Casey Chesnutt, son of country music legend Mark Chesnutt, is officially making his own mark on the genre with the release of his debut single, “Uninvited Guest,” out today via Clearwater Records / ONErpm. The single is accompanied by an official music video, now available to stream.
While his last name carries weight in country circles, Casey Chesnutt isn’t relying on his father’s fame. Instead, he’s forging his own path — blending the influence of ’90s country with a gritty edge shaped by his time in the Texas Red Dirt scene and life experience as a U.S. Marine.
Written by hitmakers Jeff Stevens and Marv Green, “Uninvited Guest” leans into classic country sounds with a barroom ballad feel that Chesnutt says felt instantly authentic.
“It’s got that somber honky-tonk vibe — the kind of song you’d expect to hear on a jukebox in the corner of a dimly lit bar,” says Chesnutt. “The first time I heard it, I knew it was for me. You really can’t get more country than this.”
Though he grew up around the Nashville sound, Chesnutt gravitated toward the raw, rock-infused stylings of Cross Canadian Ragweed, Reckless Kelly, Randy Rogers, and others from the Red Dirt movement.
“That music had this gritty, real quality — kind of like Skynyrd but cooler,” he explains. “That’s what I fell in love with, and that’s the sound I wanted to chase.”
After completing his service in the U.S. Marine Corps, Chesnutt poured himself into songwriting and performance. He recorded his first album in a hotel room and self-released it, determined to stay true to his vision even if it didn’t match industry expectations.
“People heard my last name and expected ’90s country, so I tried to write that, but it wasn’t me. Once I found my voice — and saw fans respond to it — everything started to click.”
With the help of manager Tony Conway, Chesnutt connected with Clearwater Records, marking a turning point in his career. Now, with a growing catalog and a clear artistic direction, he’s bringing his honest, roots-driven style to a broader audience.
“This journey has been long and full of work, but it’s been worth every step,” says Chesnutt. “I hope people hear this song, connect with it, and want to hear more. That’s all I can ask for.”
